SHARON, Pa. (April 6) – The Waynesburg University men's golf team placed fifth at the Thiel Spring Invitational at the Avalon at Buhl on Monday. The Yellow Jackets carded a four-man score of 313.
Senior
Matt Karpeal (Smithfield, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) led Waynesburg with a four-over score of 74 that put him in a three-way tie for eighth in the individual standings. Karpeal was followed closely by sophomore
Braden Benke (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central), who posted a 75 to earn a four-way tie for 11th place.
Sophomore
Brady Donovan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) posted a personal collegiate best by firing an 81 to tie for 32nd place, while sophomore
Alan Tarolli (Washington, Pa. / Fort Cherry) rounded out the scoring four with an 83 to tie for 37
th. Junior
Nate Barnhart (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) also competed for the Jackets and tied for 40
th with an 84.
The 60-man field boasted many Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) members as Washington and Jefferson earned the team title with a score of 292. President golfer Matthew Morelli claimed the individual title with a 69.
Waynesburg tees off next on Thursday, April 9, when it heads to the Bethany Spring Invitational at Oglebay Park. Tee time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
