WHEELING, W.Va. (April 9) – Senior Matt Karpeal (Smithfield, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) shot a four-over par score of 75 to claim the individual title while leading the Waynesburg University's men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Bethany Spring Invitational on Thursday at Oglebay Resort. The Jackets notched a four-man score of 347 in a seven-team field with 38 total players.
Sophomore Alan Tarolli (Washington, Pa. / Fort Cherry) fired a 79 to tie for fourth place, while junior Nate Barnhart (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) placed 27th with a score card of 95. Junior Braden Esbenshade (Lebanon, Pa. / Mount Calvary) completed Waynesburg's scoring four with a 98.
Sophomore Brady Donovan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) posted the 33rd overall score of 102. Senior Thomas Burke III (West Leechburg, Pa. / Leechburg) also competed as an individual for the Jackets, placing 38th with a 123.
Karpeal's win was the first individual championship claimed by a Jacket golfer since 2024, when Tarolli earned medalist honors with a 73 at Kent State Tuscarawas' Golden Eagle Invitational.
Grove City claimed the team title with a 319. Bethany's A team followed close behind with a total score of 326.
Waynesburg is back in action on Monday, April 13, when it participates in the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Invitational held at Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, Pa.
