Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. (April 17) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team led early in Saturday's match with Lancaster Bible College, but couldn't maintain the advantage as the contest wore on, and the Chargers downed the Yellow Jackets 17-5.

With the loss, the Jackets fall to 1-9 on the year, while LBC improved to 6-7.

After the home team opened up the scoring with 25:30 to go in the first half to take a 1-0 lead, Waynesburg responded with a goal each from freshman Mandy Ormsby and sophomore Samantha Swab to build a 2-1 edge with 18:41 showing on the clock.

Unfortunately, that was the last time the Jackets held the advantage on the Chargers as LBC tallied the next six goals over the next 11-plus minutes to build a 7-2 lead. Waynesburg finally broke up the scoring surge with a tally from freshman Brittany Walton. Leading 7-3, Lancaster scored two more goals in the first half, while the Jackets got another score from Ormsby to make the score 9-4 at halftime.

The Chargers scored the first six goals in the second half to take a 15-4 lead with 12:40 left in the game. The Jackets got their final score of the afternoon from Ormsby with 11:19 to go in the contest, before Lancaster put up two more goals to seal the win.

To go along with Ormsby's hat trick, Waynesburg got a trio of assists from Swab, and freshmen Chelsea Puharic and Tiffany Stansberry. Freshman Courtney Frain got the start in net and took the loss after allowing five goals on six shots on net. Sophomore Erin Burry worked the final 40-plus minutes and made 11 stops.

The Yellow Jackets wrap up their season with a home game against Medaille on April 21.
