WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 30) – Senior midfielder Maria Shepas scored a pair of second-half goals during the women's lacrosse team's matchup with Saint Vincent on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, Shepas' efforts weren't enough for a victory as the Yellow Jackets dropped a 23-3 decision to the Bearcats under cold, rainy and snowy conditions at John F. Wiley Stadium. The loss dropped the Jackets to 1-5 on the season, while Saint Vincent improved to 1-3.
Waynesburg trailed 16-0 at halftime and the deficit swelled to 17-0 before sophomore Tiffany Stansberry broke up the shutout with her fourth goal of the season. Shepas scored the Jackets' final two goals of the game, giving her a team-leading 14 on the year. Junior Erin Burry got the start in goal, made six saves and scooped up a team-high five ground balls.
The Jackets were out-shot 37-15 on the afternoon.
Waynesburg is back in action on Friday, April 8, when the Yellow Jackets host Division II Tiffin for a 6 p.m. matchup.
