WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 13) – Five different Yellow Jackets scored at least one goal each, while three picked up assists, but it wasn't enough for Waynesburg to pick up a win during Wednesday's home game against Division II West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets (1-7) fell behind 10-3 at the half and ended up dropping the contest by the final score of 21-7. The Bobcats (1-8) out-shot their hosts 43-to-26 and jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the first four minutes of play. Junior Samantha Swab broke up the shutout with her third goal of the season, which came off an assist from sophomore
Molly Kramer.
After giving up another goal to West Virginia Wesleyan, the host team cut the deficit back down to four points (6-2) on an unassisted goal by sophomore
Tiffany Stansberry. Unfortunately, that's as close as Waynesburg came to a win on the day.
Kramer and Swab each scored a team-high two goals, while Stansberry, sophomore
Carly Smithyman and freshman
Liz Hollis chipped in a goal each on the day. Stansberry and senior
Maria Shepas joined Kramer in the assist column. Senior
Miranda Thornton racked up a game-high eight groundballs, while junior
Erin Burry and freshman
Mariah Dylina each recorded 30 minutes in net and six saves during the loss.
The Yellow Jackets conclude the 2011 season on Thursday, April 21, when they host Washington & Jefferson for a 6 p.m. game.
