Shepherd fires in seven goals against Bearcats

Box Score

LATROBE, Pa. (April 12) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team took to the road to face Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Saint Vincent on Saturday morning. The Yellow Jackets (2-6), who dropped a 26-6 decision back in March to the Bearcats, gave a much better effort in Saturday's meeting and held leads throughout the first half before seeing Saint Vincent go on a big run at the end of the period en route to a 27-13 victory.

The host Bearcats (8-2) pushed out to an early 5-2 advantage before the Jackets battled back to score five of the next six goals and gain a 7-6 lead at the 14:03 mark. Senior Toria Shepherd and freshman Susie Marcoux tallied four of the five Jacket goals during the run.

Waynesburg's advantage grew to two goals at 9-7 with 10:32 to play in the half, as Shepherd found the back of the net once again. Unfortunately, Saint Vincent took control from that point on and scored nine of the next 10 goals to close the half with a 16-10 lead. The host team sealed up the victory by winning the second half 11-3.

Shepherd led all players with a game-high seven goals. Bachman and Marcoux followed up with two goals apiece. Junior Kelly Mehal and freshman Jess Rains each tallied a goal to round out the scoring. Bachman, Shepherd and sophomore Makayla Vidosh each recorded an assist. Junior goalkeeper JoHanna Phillips stopped 17 shots in 53:56 minutes of action.

Waynesburg will look to get back in the win column when they travel to face Washington and Jefferson on Monday evening. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
