Box Score LATROBE, Pa. (April 25) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team ended its 2014 season at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Lacrosse Tournament on Friday. The Yellow Jackets dropped a semifinal-matchup to Thiel College 17-6 at Chuck Noll Field on the campus of Saint Vincent College.
After the Tomcats scored the first goal of the game 59 seconds into the contest, Waynesburg answered with an unassisted tally by freshman
Jess Rains at the 24:29 mark of the first half. Thiel responded by rattling off four-straight goals to claim a 5-1 advantage with 15:37 remaining in the opening period. Waynesburg's scoring drought ended when Rains found the back of the net for the second time, again on an unassisted shot. The Tomcats tallied five more goals to end the first half of play with a 10-2 lead.
Thiel kept its momentum as the second half got underway and scored three more goals to increase its lead to 13-2.Over the last 22 minutes of the contest, the scoring pace slowed down and the two teams scored four goals each over the stretch.
Senior
Toria Shepherd, who became Waynesburg's leading goal scorer in a single season Tuesday night against Franciscan, scored twice to give her 34 tallies in her final collegiate campaign.
Sophomore
Makayla Vidosh scored two goals of her own in the loss. Sophomore JoHanna, who started the game in goal, recorded seven saves, while backup freshman goalie
Kaitlyn Wetzel notched four saves in 18:42 of time in net.
The win advanced Thiel (9-7) into the championship game on Saturday against Saint Vincent College. Saint Vincent defeated Washington & Jefferson 18-14 in the other semifinal game on Friday.
The Jackets ended their season with a 3-9 overall mark, and set the program record for wins in a season.
