GROVE CITY, Pa. (April 17) – The Waynesburg University track & field team traveled to the Grove City College Invitational on Saturday. The Yellow Jacket women placed fourth out of the 10-team field, while the men took sixth.

The Waynesburg women were paced by junior Aubrey Wingeart (King George, Va. / King George), who put together perhaps her best meet of the spring. Wingeart took gold in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters. She broke the tape in the 1,500 with a time of 5:02.81 and added a mark of 18:31.63, to best the field in the 5,000.

Senior Nicole Shelton (Dover, Pa. / Christian School of York) just missed out on a title of her own by placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She grabbed silver after crossing the finish line in 11:43.65.

Another senior, Katherine Fair (Erie, Pa. / General McLane), logged two fourth-place efforts in the hurdles. She finished the 100-meter hurdles in 16.82 seconds and completed the 400-meter race in 1:09.81.

Waynesburg also picked up one of its top performances in the 100 meters this season courtesy of freshman Sam Kelly (Cumberland, Md. / Allegany). Kelly took fifth in the event with a time of 14.36 seconds.

When it came to the field events, the Jackets shined brightest in the triple jump, where they placed second and fourth overall. Sophomore Katherine Henderson (Hundred, W.Va. / Hundred) took the silver with a hop, skip and a jump of 9.65 meters (31-7), while junior Audrey Doby (South Park, Pa. / South Park) finished two spots behind her teammate with a distance of 8.79 meters (28-10).

Moving to the men's side, Waynesburg found most of its success in the field events. Graduate student Mike Trax (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) and freshman Andrew Kemerer (Herminie, Pa. / Yough) both posted a pair of top-five performances in the jumps.

Trax took third in the long jump with a top distance of 6.08 meters (19-11) and added a fourth-place effort in the triple jump after a hop, skip and a jump of 11.81 meters (38-9). Kemerer bested Trax in the TJ with a bronze medal-distance winning effort of 11.98 meters (39-4). He finished fifth in the long jump after clearing 5.70 meters (17-8).

Freshman Kei Herbert (Baltimore, Md. / Mt. St. Joseph) led his team in the high jump with a third-place finish. Herbert cleared 1.75 meters (5-9) to take the bronze. He also placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.87 seconds.

Waynesburg picked up a trio of top-five efforts in the throws. Sophomores Justice McCamick (Saint Clairsville, Ohio / Saint Clairsville) and Aiden Sheely (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) took bronze in the discus and shot put, respectively.
