Men's track places eighth at PAC Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 30) – The Waynesburg University men's track & field team concluded the 2020-21 season at this weekend's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships. The Yellow Jackets placed eighth out of nine teams.
 
Waynesburg was led on the track by the senior-freshman duo of Matt Durgin (Winfield, W.Va. / Winfield) and Andrew Kasper (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park), who placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 10,000 meters. Durgin just edged his teammate after posting a time of 34:59.89. Kasper completed the race in 35:00.96.
 
Freshman Kai Herbert (Baltimore, Md. / Mt. St. Joseph) was solid in his first 110-meter hurdles race at PAC's. He logged the number-six time of 17.16 seconds in the finals, after posting a qualifying time of 16.95 seconds.
 
Senior Nate Jecelin (Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) posted top-10 efforts in both the 800 and 1,500 meters. He placed eighth in the 1,500 after logging a time of 4:32.00 and ninth the 800 after completing the event in 2:08.14.
 
Waynesburg claimed spots seven, eight and 10 in the 5,000 thanks to the efforts of Kasper, Durgin and sophomore Jac Cokley (Cochranton, Pa. / Cochranton), respectively. They logged times of 16:50.30, 16:51.05 and 16:55.83.
 
The Jackets were paced in the field events by senior Roman Lessard (Nicktown, Pa. / Bishop Carroll), who posted the number-four throw in the javelin. His top toss measured 50.98 meters (167-3).
 
Herbert and graduate student Mike Trax (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) both recorded sixth-place finishes in the jumps. Herbert cleared 1.67 meters (5-5.75) in the high jump, while Trax concluded his Yellow Jacket career with a leap of 6.02 meters (19-9.0) in the long jump.
