MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 19) – The Waynesburg University women's track & field team opened the outdoor portion of its schedule on Saturday when it traveled to the Stan Romanoski Open, which was hosted by West Virginia University. There was no team scoring at the event, but the Jackets got their outdoor competition slate off to a solid start with some memorable performances.
Junior
Michaela Rose (Sandy Lake, Pa. / Lakeview) showed no signs of slowing down after a fantastic indoor season by running the fastest times of any NCAA Division III competitor in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. She took third in the 100 with a mark of 13.16 seconds and posted the fourth-fastest mark in the 200 (26.86 seconds).
Moving to the field events, the Jackets fared well in the throws. Junior
Becca Dolce (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic) placed sich in the discus with a top toss of 31.05 meters (101-10). Freshman
Megan Barry (North Huntington, Pa. / Norwin) did her teammate one better by logging the number-four distance in the javelin. Barry's best effort sailed 30.78 meters (101-00).
Waynesburg is scheduled to be back in competition on Saturday, March 26, when it takes part in the Bethany Invitational.
