BETHANY, W.Va. (March 26) – The Waynesburg University women's track and field team braved the inclement weather conditions to compete in Saturday's Bethany Invitational. The Yellow Jackets' discomfort caused by the cold, gloomy conditions proved to be worthwhile, as they placed third in the 14-team field.
Junior
Michaela Rose (Sandy Lake, Pa. / Lakeview) continued her outstanding year in the sprints by winning the 13-woman 200-meter dash. Her time of 26.57 seconds was better than a second faster than the runner-up. Rose added another strong showing in the 100 meters. After qualifying for the finals with the sixth-place time of 12.77 seconds, she placed fourth in the finals with a mark of 12.84 seconds.
Senior
Monica Kolencik (Uniontown, Pa. / Geibel Catholic) posted the third-place time in the 5,000 meters after crossing the finish line in 20:30.15. Senior
Gloria Reed (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) added another solid performance in the distance events for Waynesburg thanks to a seventh-place effort in the 1,500 meters. She completed the race in 5:29.76.
The Jackets also enjoyed success in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of junior

Maggie Stains (South Fork, Pa. / Forest Hills) and freshman
Cami Frame (Washington, Pa. / The Linsly School) combined to post a time of 4:41.10.
Moving to the field events, a trio of Jackets posted top-three efforts in the throws. Junior
Becca Dolce (Hanover, Pa. / DeLone Catholic) earned bronze medals in both the discus and shot put. Dolce's top toss in the discus sailed 30.40 meters (99-8.5), while her best showing in the shot measured 10.69 meters (35-0.9).
Waynesburg finished second and third in the javelin thanks to the efforts of freshmen
Megan Barry (North Huntington, Pa. / Norwin) and
Lana Jordan (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township). Barry took second in the event with a top throw of 30.59 meters (100-4.3) and Jordan followed with a distance of 27.57 meters (90-5.4).
Junior
Katherine Henderson (Hundred, W.Va. / Hundred) led the Orange and Black in the jumps by tying for second place in the high jump after clearing 1.45 meters (4-9.1). Henderson also posted the number-five mark in the triple jump after a hop, skip and a jump of 9.40 meters (30-10.1).
While her teammates were busy at Bethany, senior standout
Aubrey Wingeart (King George, Va. / King George) competed in both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters at Saturday's Weems Baskin Invitational, which was hosted by the University of South Carolina. She took 29th in the 800 (2:30.73) and 12th in the 1,500 (5:01.68).
Waynesburg is scheduled to be back in competition on Saturday, April 2, when it takes part in the Dave Labor Invitational, which is being hosted by Slippery Rock University.
