MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 29) – The Waynesburg men's track & field team spent Thursday and Friday competing in the annual Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Yellow Jackets took eighth in the 10-team field.
Sophomore
Isaiah Mathews (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Montour) placed fifth in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes thanks to times of 11.06 and 22.43 seconds, respectively. The Yellow Jackets added another medalist in the 10,000 meters after sophomore
Andrew Kasper (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) placed sixth with a time of 34:09.58.
Sophomore
Kai Herbert (Baltimore, Md. / Mt. St. Joseph) posted a time of 15.94 seconds in the preliminary round of the 110-meter hurdles. In the finals, he logged the number-four time of 16.03 seconds. The Jackets put another competitor on the podium for the hurdles thanks to sophomore
Cole Thiec (Stoneborough, Pa. / Lakeview), who logged the number-seven mark of 62.00 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Jackets performed well in the 4x100-meter relay race. Thiec, Herbert, Mathews and freshman
Zach Berrott (Plum, Pa. / Plum) combined to post a time of 43.10 seconds. Thiec was also part of Waynesburg's seventh-place 4x400-meter relay quartet that completed the race in 3:38.49. He joined junior
Luke Hostetler (Mercer, Pa. / Lakeview), freshman
Nolan Curran (Ellwood City, Pa. / Ellwood City) and senior
Silas Mays (McDonald, Pa. / South Fayette) in the event.
Moving to the field events, Herbert took fourth in the high jump after clearing 1.85 meters (6-0.83). Curran posted one of Waynesburg's best pole vault efforts of the year after earning fourth place with a height of 3.07 meters (10-0.87).
Staying in the jump pits, junior
Andrew Kemerer (Herminie, Pa. / Yough) earned the eighth-place medal in the triple jump with a hop, skip and a jump of 12.73 meters (41-9.18).
Freshman
Garrett Hillard (Greenville, Pa. / Greenville) matched Kemerer's finish in the shot put with a heave of 12.87 meters (42-2.69).
Waynesburg's season hasn't come to an end just yet, as the Jackets are scheduled to travel to Allegheny's Marty Goldberg Gator Invite on Thursday, May 12.
