WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 16) -- The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team, under the direction of second-year head coach Stephanie London, are looking to ride last season's improvements into the 2024 campaign. The Jackets will feature three returning players and 13 program newcomers this season.
The Yellow Jackets finished last season with a 3-13 mark. To outsiders, a 3-13 clip may not seem like much, but for a program that won three total games from 2016-22, the growth, improvement and direction of the program could not be more clear. Waynesburg is primed to improve upon last season's marks as they look to build the foundation for current and future success.
Anna Bradley (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) figures to see time both in goal and on the Jackets' offensive attack. Bradley started all 16 of the Orange and Black's games last season, with 14 of those starts coming in the net. She averaged 7.2 saves per game and had a .330 save percentage. In the field, she notched a pair of goals and three assists.
Diana Gurecka (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton La Salle) made 10 appearances and two starts in goal last season and will see time between the pipes for the team this season.
The Jackets have a trio of seniors on this years roster.
Megan Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) is the lone senior with prior varsity experience as she has started all 26 of the teams' games over the past two seasons in the midfield and on defense. Wilson posted 14 ground balls and was second on the squad with 11 caused turnovers in 2023.
Ella Grimes (McMurray, Pa. / Hillcrest Christian Academy) and
Linsey Dami (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) expect to see action in their senior seasons.
Freshmen
Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and
Rylie Alexander (Mount Clemens, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse High School North) along with sophomore
Mya Riggle (Ford City, Pa. / Armstrong) all saw time on the pitch for the soccer team and will make their lacrosse debuts this season.
Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels Area) starred on the volleyball court and will see action in her first lacrosse season.
Karly Starcher (Williamston, W.Va. / St. Mary's) is a member of the tennis team, and she rounds out the quintet of multi-sport athletes on this years squad.
Freshmen
Ziomara Reyes (Kearneysville, W.Va. / Martinsburg) and
Gabriella Provenzano (West Mifflin, Pa. / Serra Catholic) will both see time on the Jackets' defense. Reyes was a two-time letter winner and Second Team All-State honoree in high school.
Freshman
Angelina Darpino (Baltimore, Md. / Patapsco) and sophomore
Ella Sheedy (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley) will see time on the attack and in the midfield. Freshman
Kaitlyn Lipscomb (Baltimore, Md. / Lansdowne) and junior
Asia Revak (Masontown, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) will see action on defense and in the midfield.
The Yellow Jackets open the 2024 season Sunday at 2 p.m. when they host Eastern Mennonite for a non-conference tilt.
