YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Dec. 5) – The Waynesburg University men's track & field team kicked off the indoor portion of its schedule by traveling to the Youngstown State University Icebreaker presented by Southwoods Health. There was no team scoring at the meet that featured a multitude of NCAA Division I and Division II schools in the field.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman Darrius Mason (La Plata, Md. / La Plata), who blazed across the finish line in his 60-meter qualifying sprint with a time of 6.99 seconds. That mark tied him for second place out of 94 runners who completed the race and tied him for the second-fastest time in program history.

He outdid himself in the preliminary round by placing 12th with a mark of 6.98 seconds. Mason just missed out on being the only Division III runner to make the finals in the 60 meters by .08 seconds.

He also posted a time of 23.75 seconds in the 200 meters.

Moving to the field events, freshman Levi Tracy (West Milton, Ohio / Milton-Union) made a good first impression on his teammates by placing sixth in the high jump. He cleared 1.79 meters (5-10.5), making him the top finisher amongst all Division III competitors.

Junior Jacob Harker (Lilly, Pa. / Bishop Carroll) picked up right where he left off after a fantastic sophomore season by taking 14th in the shot put with a top heave of 14.43 meters (47-4.25), which made him the top finisher amongst Division III throwers.

He added the number-23 toss in the weight throw at 12.93 meters (42-5.25), which was just 0.1 meter behind the top Division III performer in the event.

The Jackets will be away from competition until the new year, when they travel to Muskingum for the Muskie Meet #2 on Saturday, Jan. 24. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
